On Sunday 24th November, children from The Croft will play the starring role at the annual Swindon Old Town Christmas Lights Switch On.
Using a button they have designed and created themselves, a selection of our pupils will turn on the famous Christmas lights at 5:00 p.m. in front of an estimated crowd of 4,000 people!
Switching the lights on will be the second time our pupils are involved in the event, as a choir composed of children from The Croft will perform live on stage to start the celebrations.
Elaine Murphy, Principal, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our choir to perform in front of a huge audience, as well as having the honour of turning the lights on. It really was a special surprise when I received the invite!”
“Christmas is a great time of year at our school as we look forward to performing our carol concerts, nativities, and reception festive performances. We will talk to the children about the spirit of Christmas and look beyond the surface of presents, food, and baubles.”
We are so excited to celebrate the festive season, and this invite has gifted our children such a great opportunity. It is a pleasure to support our local community. We have always had great support from the Old Town Business Association, and they have consistently worked with our school during the festive time, donating gifts to the raffle at our Christmas fayre, which takes place on Saturday 7th December this year. We are delighted to share the spotlight at this event with our partners in the community.
The annual Old Town Christmas Lights Switch On takes place on Wood Street and Joiner Lane in the centre of Old Town. Hosted by The Old Town Business Association, it is a free-to-enter street party that will include plenty of food and drink stalls, live music, and fun children’s activities supported by both the businesses and all the families of Old Town.
We are very proud to be able to offer our pupils such a special opportunity, and it’s an experience that the children involved will remember for a long time to come.
Lots of staff, parents, and friends from The Croft community, along with our extended friends and families of Old Town, will be there to enjoy the festivities. We would love it if you could come along too and help make it an unforgettable day for all the children taking part!
