Another term has absolutely whizzed by! Year 1 focussed on Construction in our topic ‘Can We Fix It?’ The children amazed us with their fantastic learning at home over the school holidays and produced some brilliant models of famous construction landmarks all over the world.
In English, we added a pinch of generosity and a big dollop of kindness when we wrote our own recipes for what makes a good friend. Later in the term, we looked at Lego. First, we used adjectives to describe its properties, before making a story map and finally writing our very own Lego Model Adventure!
In Maths, we have been learning about how numbers are made up of tens and ones. The children did brilliantly with understanding the concept and applying it in their later work. We also started learning about the tricky concept of arrays and reinforced our counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.
Our work all built towards a fantastic trip to Legoland at the end of term. We looked at all the amazing constructions and talked about how they were made, got our driving licenses on the cars and worked as a team to try and build the strongest castles from Lego by looking at the construction features which made them weak or strong.
Here are a few photos from our trip!
A few more highlights from this term:
- Lots of new experiences in Everyone can week
- A Paralympian visit
- Electing our new eco councillors
- Being able to take our learning outside more in the lovely weather
As we zoom towards the end of the school year at a rate of knots, our final term will see us discovering why we love to be beside the seaside!
