Year 4’s journey through term 3
In term 3 maths we’ve been focusing on multiplying by 10,100,1 and 0’s but as well as multiplying by 10,100,1 and 0 we also practised our times tables up to 12. While we were multiplying we also divided by 10 , 100 , 1 , 0 , 2 , 12 and 11’s. We used different strategies such as : arrays, moving to the left or right once or twice depending on how many zero’s there are in the number [for both strategies using 10 and 100], and grid method [to help with our times tables] .
In term 3 English we had a frightful crime scene! We found out that someone broke into Mrs Webb’s classroom and absolutely trashed the top end of the room! As well as trashing a classroom they greedily stole Mrs Hutchinson’s precious love heart painting! We’ve been doing some deep investigation on the crime scene trying to seek out the culprit. We interviewed our 2 main suspects, Mrs Knight and Miss Collins, we also interviewed Mrs Hutchinson. We filled in sheets to give some information about the 3 people to the police officers so they can help solve the crime. To find which suspects from the 2 were guilty , we looked at some evidence such as: CCTV footage and at some evidence left in Miss Webb’s class room . A few weeks after the crime scene occurred we wrote some incredible newspaper reports about what happened in the crime scene.
Later on in the term, we read a Enid Blyton book called The Mystery of The Secret Room and wrote a letter from a boy in the book called Fatty [Frederick Troterville], to the police officer in the book Mr Goon.
We had so much fun in term 3 and we are looking forward to learning about Rainforests in term 4!
