This term our enquiry was ‘Who are we twinned with?’ As part of this enquiry we looked at the different towns that Swindon are twinned with. We used our skills as geographers to compare the population, size, climate and other features of each town.
In addition to this we worked as designers to create a flag for Swindon to show twinned towns all that is great about Swindon. After some research, the children used the skills of applique, embroidery and embellishment to turn their ideas into a patch to go on their flag and represent Swindon.
Among the items represented were Great Western Railway, Steam Museum, Lydiard Park, Coate Water and more. The flags now look amazing and colourful on display. What was so lovely about this project is that some of our talented parents came in to help us and teach us the skills we needed to complete this task.
As well as this creative project Year 5 learnt some traditional Nicaraguan dance moves and choreographed their own dances. They then performed these to the other classes in KS2.
The children were so impressed with the dances they watched they thought Year 5 should invite their parents in for a performance too. This will be happening next term on 19th April and 2pm which we are looking forward to. We even taught Year 3 and 4 some moves!
At the end of the term lots of the children took part in the colour run to raise money for charity. After running through the shower of paint the children looked rather colourful!
To finish off the enquiry the children had to apply everything they have learnt to research a town that they would like to be twinned with Swindon and use their persuasion to convince others.
